People Management
People Management is a Human Resources magazine which members of the Chartered Institute of Professional Development receive. The corresponding website features the magazine content, as well as online only content, a daily updated news section plus blogs from the editorial team and guests.
The brief
The requirement from the client was to increase People Management’s presence in Google, to bring in more referrals from the search engine and also to use SEO and other traffic building techniques to increase the visitors to the website.
The Work
Digital Agency i-level were brought in to work on the project and also host a workshop for the writers to understand the benefits of SEO for content creators. Working with i-level, my Digital Marketing Manager and the writers of People Management I set about making the necessary changes to the website in order to help reach our objective. This included additional keyword research to prioritise keywords we should rank for that have high return of traffic, then with these in mind undertaking on-page optimisation and working with the writers to use these valuable terms in their copy.
Other work included implementing internal linking, creating a presence on Twitter and starting a link building and content syndication campaign.
The Results
In the period August – November 2009 the referrals increased by 8,762 (51%) with overall traffic increasing year-on-year (Oct) by 33%.
